Design a Theme
First of all, I’d like to thank everyone who, over the weekend, decided to take me up on my challenge and design a theme for my site. In the past forty-eight hours, we’ve seen the number of available skins more than double. On top of my original four, we now have:
- Lobster by Narflet
- Bunbun by Narflet
- Foo by Dave
- Fonz by George
- Frozen Rose by Shallimus
- Beak by Daf
- Vespa by Matt
The really great thing to see is that all of them are quite different from each other. They all give the site their own feel, and all are fresh original ideas. At the time of writing, a couple still need a little work (yes Matt I’ll do yours first), I’ve had people “pestering” me to make adjustments to their theme, but in actuallity it’s been great doing a little bit of extra work just to make people extra happy with their work. You’ve all been very modest about your creations, they deserve your attention if they aren’t quite how you want them.
Working with so much new material has made me notice a few things about the site that might need tweaking, I’ve noticed lots of existing stuff that needs looking at, and various people have been throwing suggestions at me that I might just do. One of these things is the Boombox, which will be getting an overhaul very soon. I’ve had more traffic in the past three days than I’ve had in the two weekes before that, so content has benn accumulating. Don’t worry if you find the Boombox deactivated, it will only be temporary. The newly established archives will be closed too, I’m hoping to make them easier to read.
Because of all the site design recently, and having switched over to the Mozilla web browser, I’ve actually been able to make first hand comparisons between IE and its competitors. I’ve never really thought about IE being a bad browser, I mean, I know there’s this whole “Microsoft is Evil” and “monopoly” stuff going on, but from a very extended usage period, I’ve always though IE was kinda stable and functional. It gave me the internet, in a no-nonsense and fast way. The way it rendered web pages was the first thing that only shocked me once I started using Moz.
Most surfers will wander around the internet, never noticing this, but IE is actually really bad at rendering web pages. There are too many little points to mention here, but I’ll say that you should visit my site in Mozilla sometime, it looks a lot better! I’ll quickly avoid going into super-technical rant mode now, because I think my writing has just lost its “flow”.
I’ll wrap up with the weblogger’s mandatory complaint about the way things are in their life right now. The past week has been pretty uneventful, save a mad dash to meet a coursework deadline. It struck me yesterday that we’re in week nine of our ten week term already, wihch means exams are just around the corner. Maybe that means we’ll be seeing a lot more new content as I work on my site to avoid revising, or perhaps I’ll actually get my head down early this time round. Either way, I’ll try to keep the place fresh.
No pictures this time! Sorry!
