It’s amazing what people (read as: “I”) will do to avoid work. It is currently quarter to three in the morning, and I am supposed to be doing my coursework, which has to be handed in in two days time (arg! Valid repetition!). I have actually been working for the past half hour, so I could excuse this as a break… Then I realised that this whole site was born from my ability to procrastinate. I was looking for a reason to put off working, when I was told that my brother had bought a domain name, and was now hosting his site there instead of Tripod.

So, I went along, bought a domain, and had fun playing with HTML instead of doing Computer Architecture questions. Just like that.

I thought last night would be the perfect time to start learning to draw Manga Style (extra “e”s optional). It was quite enjoyable actually, I realised I hadn’t drawn the figure of a person seriously for many years. I’ll probably scan them and put them up here, even though they were drawn on lined notepad. For a first manga drawing, I feel I have much to learn in terms of faces and hands, and especially perpective. I felt I did quite well in the clothing, I gave myself some baggy trousers and a Kanji top.

Today I drew Matt (a housemate of mine), because we started on our Design Methodologies work, but got bored after a while. I made his hat too big, but he added a moped to the picture, so it was okay in the end. He thinks I should produce an anime with flying Vespas in, just like FuriKuri. If only I could, if only I could… That’s one housemate down, just have to draw the other four now…

Drawing in Manga Style made me realise that when an artist draws faces, there really isn’t much you can do to distinguish between people. It’s all in the hair, and the clothing. Take away those, and most characters would look very similar. Accessories are important. In this house, there are four of us with considerably long hair, so there are only so many ways I can style that.

Enough of Manga! (For now). Now is December! Month of cold! Month of festivity! Month of Coffee! Actually, all months are months of coffee, but it needed to be said. I have a mug of Fairtrade Machu Picchu (runs to cupboard to check spelling), I consider it a Good Thing.

You may have noticed the new image on the front page, it’s something I made for b3ta. This week’s photoshop challenge is “Doctor Who Monsters that should have been.” The link is to the larger of two I produced, so you can see more clearly; my inability to handle Paint Shop Pro. I thought Professor Beaker was scary enough anyway… I managed to enter it in time to make it to the first page of entries, which has effectively doubled my traffic, at least. I checked my web stats, and it seems people from all over the world have seen it, including Japan!

Well, back to the grindstone. I should be doing other stuff, I might even get back to my work!
